We are an Interior Design Firm based in New York City and Sarasota, Florida. Our team effectively liaises with multiple architects, contractors, artisans, vendors, and trades to deliver exceptional and curated spaces for our clients near and far.

Ellen Hanson

Founder

Ellen Hanson's comfortable, uncluttered, and beautiful interiors are always a unique visualization of her clients' own tastes and lifestyles. Vibrant use of color and fresh ways of combining hues and textures are hallmarks of Ellen's spaces, and green, sustainable principles are a foundation of her approach.

Ellen's education in Art History at Cornell University, with coursework in such diverse areas as organic gardening and biology, in no way prepared her for designing interiors. She found her way to interior design through a circuitous route, from embroidery workshops with Erica Wilson at her Nantucket studio to an internship at Philadelphia’s Fabric Workshop. Ellen’s curiosity and open mind push her design practice to continually evolve, as do her travels throughout the world in search of inspiration and unique furnishings, accessories, and fabrics.

Ellen opened her eponymous interiors firm on Madison Avenue in 1991 and has since overseen projects ranging from hospitality to high-end residential. Ellen is a passionate advocate of craftsmanship and is constantly seeking inspiration and honing her vision through an ongoing study of the arts.

Ellen now calls Sarasota, Florida her home. Ellen serves as a trustee on the Board of the Foundation for National Public Radio, and on the Board of WUSF Public Radio in Tampa, Florida.

Our team DNA is based in mutual respect, curiosity, and flexibility. Deep appreciation for the art/craft/process involved in making things that bring beauty and function into our daily lives is at the core of all our efforts.

Lisa Hargus

Director + Senior Designer

Growing up with a real estate developer mother and an architect father, Lisa often snuck onto construction sites, spending hours afterward doodling new homes. A decade or so later, Lisa got her BA in Psychology, then took the obvious next step: she started a theater company in New York City. One night at a party, she found herself next to Ellen Hanson and the two quickly discovered a shared love of design and sustainability. Lisa leapt at Ellen's offer of an internship. Today, Lisa is EHD's director and senior designer. A proud partner in the studio's dedication to sustainable luxury, Lisa is LEED certified.

Lisa takes great joy in listening to clients’ needs and desires and then, with them, forging a path to create a space that is uniquely theirs. A true collaborator, Lisa’s visual and verbal abilities are equally keen. While keeping in mind her clients’ story, she sees what a space can be for them, and can skillfully communicate how they’ll get there.

Lisa lives to hunt down beautiful new (or old) resources and accepts any design challenge with zeal. When she’s kicking back, this Tex-pat sings in her husband’s country band, throws last minute parties and seeks out the best Mexican food wherever she finds herself.

Camille Lyn-Morillo

Junior Designer

Camille Lyn-Morillo is a second generation Chinese-Jamaican-Italian-American born and raised in Queens, New York. With both parents in demand as professional chefs, Camille’s family moved frequently, giving rise to a deep interest in designing as Camille had the opportunity to re-imagine her own space time and time again.

As a New Yorker who adored city life, Camille applied to colleges in New York to get back as soon as she could. While pursuing her BFA in Interior Design at The School of Visual Arts, Camille inquired about a summer internship after falling in love with an EHD Hamptons project she visited. Returning to the firm each summer, Camille is thrilled to be joining the team as a junior designer now that she has graduated.

Camille is fascinated by the way residential interior spaces provide a foundation of memory making while also conveying personal values and cultural identity. Her interest in photography has led to Camille taking on visual story telling at EHD. When not hard at work designing, Camille attends to her own projects which have been featured in two published books and four exhibitions, notably the Venice Biennale. Camille has an unmistakable eye for scoring high fashion finds at thrift stores and loves dreaming up new travel adventures.

Interior design that is luxurious, sustainable, local, essential, and durable.
